Use Your Illusion II is the fourth studio album by the American hard rock band, Guns N’ Roses, characterized by being more melancholic, reflective, sad and dark than its predecessor Use Your Illusion I and indeed the most “depressing” album of the band (for songs like “Breakdown” or “Estranged”), in fact it was chosen by critics as “the darkest and most reflective album in the entire GNR discography”.
It has sold close to 28 million copies around the world so far. The album also reached #1 on the US charts. Included on the album is “You Could Be Mine” which became the band’s third most successful and best-selling single (behind Sweet Child O’ Mine and “November Rain”). The single has respectively sold 7 million copies on its own. Likewise, this album also achieved the “record” by being the third Guns N’ Roses album to position itself at number 1 on the charts of various countries, some of them were the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, which made Guns N’ Roses is one of the privileged artists in history to achieve three #1 albums outside of their home country.
This album was the last studio collaboration of rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who would leave the band after the recording alleging differences with vocalist Axl Rose and Steven Adler who recorded the drums on “Civil War”, the last song with all the original members. , and that he would later be expelled from the band.
